My name is Ellen Nathan and I am the President for Unit 912 in Washington City, UT. I am a past president for the American Legion Auxiliary Department of Utah, current Poppy Chairman for the Department of Utah, District 7 Vice President and Girls State Chairman, Unit 912 President, Unit 912 Girls State Chairman. I can be reached at 435-652-8333 or by email. The American Legion Auxiliary is a remarkable organization with dedicated women across the country, devoted to America's veterans, young people and communities. The women of the American Legion Auxiliary make a difference in the lives of all Americans. They educate children, organize community events and help our nation's veterans through legislative action and volunteerism. The American Legion Auxiliary is the world's largest women's patriotic service organization with nearly 1 million members in 10,100 communities. Auxiliary members are a unique group of women, joined in the fellowship of volunteerism, patriotism and dedication to veterans, young people and communities. It benefits an American Legion Auxiliary unit to be visible in its community. Let the community know that your unit is willing to help veterans, service members, and their families during hard times, both financially and practically. The American Legion Auxiliary Emergency Fund (AEF) is available to provide temporary assistance for educational training due to a lack of skills necessary for employment, or in order to upgrade competitive workforce skills. Today, we are fortunate to have many ways of gaining information and the ALA Academy is one of the best ways to get accurate and complete information. To take the ALA Academy courses, visit the national website at www.ALAforVeterans.org , go to members only, and it is the first drop down. If you know a member or unit that has done something extraordinary or innovative, you can nominate them for ALA Rock Star recognition. Forms are in the Members Only section of the national website at www.ALAforVeterans.org/Members/Membership . Remember: The ALA is celebrating our 100th anniversary for a reason. Let us focus on service with 2020 vision as we celebrate this milestone and ring in a new century of supporting the ALA mission serving our veterans, service members, and their families — truly living our promise of Service Not Self.
